About Dr. Bush

Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

I received my PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Michigan in 1974, where I was trained in psychoanalytically oriented child and adult therapy. Since then, I’ve studied many different schools of therapy, including: structural, strategic, and systemic family therapy, Ericksonian hypnotherapy, EMDR and narrative therapy. My current therapeutic approach has many similarities to a recent approach called, “Internal Family Systems.”

My years of practice have taught me to privilege people’s experience of what’s helpful over what any particular theory says should be helpful. To paraphrase Suzuki Roshi: The purpose of therapy is to “… help people find their own way, when they cannot find their own way.”
